Personalised, Proven, and Compassionate Support Strategies
All NPL staff receive a two-day initial training in PROACT-SCIPr-UK®, followed by annual refresher courses to maintain and develop their competence. Training includes:

Prioritising Prevention, Safety, and Respect in Every Interaction
PROACT-SCIPr-UK® stands for “Positive Range of Options to Avoid Crisis and use Therapy – Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention.” It is built around a tiered strategy model that focuses on prevention, de-escalation, and safety.
Proactive Strategies – 70% Focus
Our emphasis is on proactive support, which constitutes the majority of the intervention framework. These strategies aim to identify and address the root causes of behaviour before escalation, through tailored support plans, environmental adjustments, and skill-building.
Active Strategies – 20% Focus
These strategies are designed to manage situations as they arise, using therapeutic engagement and de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm and safe environment. Active strategies include identifying early signs of distress and responding with supportive interventions.
Reactive Strategies – 10% Focus
Restrictive interventions are only used as a last resort, in the safest, most respectful way possible, and only when all other strategies have been exhausted. Safety, consent, and ethical considerations are always paramount.
